Blackstone has two U15/16 teams in this years competition, a Div 1 and a Div 2 team. The Div 2 team travelled to Westminster for our game of the season. The team is a mix of last year’s U15/16 Div 3, U14 Div 3 and a few new faces. With the boys training well, we knew we would be competitive. The game was very evenly poised through the first half with each side having opportunities to open their account. Hussain was a constant threat up front and his probing runs were finally rewarded when he got in behind the defense and passed the ball under the keeper for the opening goal at the 35’ minute mark. Blackstone tool this slender lead into half time.
The second half heated up and Westminster capitalised on an error from Rhyno and mopped up the scraps and brought the score back to 1 all. We didn’t have to wait too long to take the lead when Ahbi found space in the midfield and made a driving run up the pitch. With time and space around 25 yards out, he unleashed with a strike that the Westminster keeper had no chance of saving, right into the top left corner. Blackstone up 2-1 with 30 mins to go. The match continued to see saw and Westminster were able to equalize from another keeper error to bring the score back to 2 all. To Rhyno’s credit, while frustrated with himself, he did not drop his head and lifted his game. He was able to pull off three cracking one on one saves against their striker and finished the game on a high. Great effort from the boys in the first match of the season and they can only continue to improve. Special mention goes to our spine, JB and Seth as our centre half pairing, Jonas and Ahbi as mids and Hussain up front. Also need to mention Dan’s effort, really crook and sore but you wouldn’t have known it by how he played.
Full time result Westminster 2 drew Blackstone 2.
Ahbi is pumped!!!
